Editor's Note: Two years ago, Site Manager Ben Humphrey asked readers to provide predictions for Cardinals baseball players. Last year, he renewed that request, and although Ben is in blogger retirement, we at VEB are re-renewing the request to predict how the Cardinals will do.
Next up: Jonathan Broxton
In somewhat of a surprise, the Cardinals brought back Jonathan Broxton on a two-year deal worth $7.5 million. The Cardinals had declined Broxton's $9 million option for 2016 by paying a one million dollar buyout that actually came over from the Milwaukee Brewers as part of his trade last season. Broxton pitched acceptably after joining St. Louis, putting up a 2.66 ERA and 3.56 FIP in 23.2 innings over 26 appearances. Those numbers included a relatively high 12% walk rate. The Cardinals figure to have a very good bullpen this season and Broxton is expected to be a part of that as someone manager Mike Matheny trusts.
Here are Broxton's stats from last year:
Jonathan Broxton | SV | IP | K/9 | BB/9 | ERA | FIP | WAR |
2015 | 0 | 60.1 | 9.4 | 3.28 | 4.62 | 3.65 | 0.3 |
How will he do this year? You can find his Steamer projection on the FanGraphs player page and the Cardinals ZiPS are here.
Second Editor's Note: I created the form so that all pitcher forms are identical. You see starts there for Siegrist. Presumably you will enter 0 for him. All the starters will have saves on their forms. This makes the data easier to collect. Thank you for your understanding. I did not include games/appearances because innings should suffice for these projections. Thanks.
Thank you for your help. Did you miss any other projections? Visit our projections section or click on the player links below.
