New Cardinals reliever Matt Belisle discusses his experience with Adam Wainwright when both crossed paths in the Braves organization, classifying Waino as "very, very, very competitive...at anything he ever did, and I loved that about him. But he has matured even more so than I think anybody ever would have thought. He's been tremendous." Belisle was drafted by the Braves in the second round of the 1998 MLB Draft while Wainwright was drafted in the first round of the 2000 draft. It appears that outside of obviously sharing Spring Training experiences, the two spent some time together in the starting rotation as members of the Double-A Greenville Braves in 2003. Belisle was eventually the PTBNL in a trade that brought veteran reliever Kent Mercker (talk about a throwback name right there) to the Braves from the Cincinnati Reds. Eleven years later, the two right-handed pitchers have been reunited as teammates in St. Louis.
