Triple A: Memphis 5 - Colorado Springs 4

  • Breyvic Valera (LF): 0-4, BB, K
  • Patrick Wisdom (1B): 2-5, R, HR, 3 RBI, K
  • Aledmys Diaz (2B): 1-4, 2B, BB
  • Jose Adolis Garcia (CF): 1-5, 2 K
  • Tyler O’Neill (RF): 1-5
  • Bruce Caldwell (3B): 2-4, R, RBI, BB, 2 K
  • Jordan Schafer (PH): 0-1
  • Zac Gallen (SP): 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
  • Rowan Wick (RP): 1 IP, 1 H

Memphis ended the regular season 91-50 (.645), 11 games better than the next best records in the PCL. The Redbirds will begin the playoffs at home on Wednesday against this same Sky Sox outfit...Patrick Wisdom’s homer was his 31st, which led the Redbirds and was tied for 4th (along with Willie Calhoun and teammate Tyler O’Neill) in the PCL...Breyvic Valera was called up to St. Louis this morning to give the club another option to fill in for the injured Matt Carpenter. Congratulations to Breyvic, who’s been in the organization since 2010. He’s gone berserk in the second half this season, all 8 of his home runs have come since June 25th, he had hit 4 home runs over his previous 7+ years of professional baseball...Hey it’s Jordan Schafer...And Rowan Wick...Zac Gallen was dominant at the beginning of the season in Palm Beach, had a very good, very brief stint in Memphis and then was OK in the Texas League. There will likely be at least a couple of starters graduating to the big leagues in front of him, so he should find himself in the mix for at least a taxi squad spot next season.

Double A: Springfield 8 - Tulsa 7

  • Magneuris Sierra (RF): 1-5
  • Oscar Mercado (CF): 1-5, R, HR, RBI
  • Eliezer Alvarez (2B): 2-4, 2 R, HR, RBI, K
  • Andrew Knizner (C): 1-5, 2 R, 2B, RBI, K
  • Tommy Edman (SS): 3-5, R, RBI
  • Dailyn Martinez (SP): 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 1 K

Springfield set franchise records for total wins (77) and second half wins (42), but it wasn’t quite enough. These same Tulsa Drillers rolled to a 44-26 record to keep Springfield out of the Texas League playoffs...Oscar Mercado cooled off quite a bit after starting the season on a tear. Even with a more pedestrian second half he managed 13 homers, which easily topped the 8 career home runs he had coming into the season, and a team leading 38 steals. His timing was right, the organization will have to make a decision on whether or not to add him to the 40 man to protect him from the Rule 5 draft this winter, and he looked like an afterthought following his move to CF last season...Andrew Knizner was the less-heralded of the two college catchers the Cardinals picked in the first 7 rounds last year, but the NC State product easily passed fellow 2016 draftee Jeremy Martinez on the organization depth chart this year. If he stays on track (and behind the plate) next season he’ll give the organization another catching prospect with a plus offensive ceiling in Memphis, barring an offseason trade...Injuries turned this into a bit of a lost season for Eliezer Alvarez so it was nice to see him end things on a high note. He’ll get another crack at the Texas League as a 23 year old next season.

Class A: Peoria 11 - Kane County 9 (11 Innings)

  • Kramer Robertson (SS): 4-6, 3 R, 2B, RBI, K, SB
  • Evan Mendoza (3B): 4-5, 2 R, 2 2B, RBI
  • Juan Yepez (1B): 2-4, 2 R, 3B, RBI, BB
  • Stefan Trosclair (DH): 2-3, R, HR, 2 RBI, K
  • Nick Plummer (CF): 1-5, R, 2B, K
  • Ronnie Williams (SP): 1.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HR

After finishing the first half of the season in second-to-last in the division The Chiefs rebounded in the 2nd half to go 39-31 and qualify for the playoffs. They’ll open a best of 3 series at home against Quad Cities on Wednesday...For whatever reason, I pretty much ignored Stefan Trosclair until the late this season. The 2016 20th round pick ended up finishing second on the team in homers with 15 and led the team in hits, walks, triples and steals, and had the highest wRC+ (among qualifiers) at 136...Evan Mendoza’s finished his 18 game audition in Peoria strong. He was promoted for the playoff push after hitting .371 in 41 games for State College...3 position players pitched in yesterday’s game. Peoria won after getting to Kane County catcher Alexis Olmeda for a pair of runs in the 11th.

Class A Short-Season: Auburn 4 - State College 1

  • Yariel Gonzalez (3B): 0-4
  • Josh Lopez (C): 1-3, BB
  • Bryce Denton (LF): 1-4
  • J.D. Crowe (DH): 2-4, 2B, K
  • Andrew Summerville (SP): 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K,1 HR
