Daily Farm Report: Minor League All-Star Break Edition

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

It was a short slate of games yesterday, with only 3 short-season clubs in action.

Class A Short Season: Tri-City 7 - State College 0

  • Scott Hurst (CF): 1-3, BB, K
  • Josh Lopez (C): 3-4, 2B, K
  • Anthony Shew (SP): 6.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 6 K, HR

Rookie: GCL Astros 4 - GCL Cards 3

  • Delvin Perez (SS): 0-5, 3 K
  • Jonathan Machado (CF): 2-4, R
  • Robbie Coman (C): 1-3, R, HR, RBI, BB
  • Brian Pirela (SP): 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 3 HR

Not a great debut It's obviously very early, but Delvin Perez has struggled so far to follow up on the success of his first season in pro ball. His demotion to the GCL may have been as much about keeping him around all the instructors he worked with in extended spring training as the level of competetion, but it would be nice to see him break out and end the season somewhere outside of Florida...The upside to Delvin Perez being back in the complex league is that the GCL Cardinals actually have three names to watch right now. Terry Fuller is getting his first taste of pro ball, Jonathan Machado is making his US debut, and it's always fun see what Delvin Perez is up to. So I'll try to be sure to at least include the line from each of those three every game, glorified scrimmages or not.

Dominican Summer League: DSL Cardinals 2 - DSL Yankees 1

  • Franklin Soto (2B): 0-3, RBI, K
  • William Jimenez (RF): 1-3, BB
  • Christian Longa (1B): 4-4,
