Daily Farm Report: Luke Weaver Fans 11 Baby Cakes

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

Triple A: Memphis 4 - New Orleans 1

  • Todd Cunningham (RF-2B): 1-4 R, K
  • Luke Voit (1B): 1-2, R, RBI, 2 BB, K
  • Carson Kelly (C): 1-4, BB, K
  • Harrison Bader (CF): 2-4, 2 RBI, BB
  • Patrick Wisdom (3B): 0-3, 2 RBI, K
  • Luke Weaver (SP): 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 11 K
  • Mark Montgomery (RP): 2 IP, 2 K
  • Sam Tuivailala (RP): 1 IP, 2 K

As far as I can tell the 3 innings that Todd Cunningham spent playing 2B last night were his first professional innings as an infielder…Odd fact, Luke Voit’s wRC+ has gone up 10 points every time he’s moved up a level, 115, 124, 134, 145, 154, in State College, Peoria, Palm Beach, Springfield and now Memphis respectively. His most likely outcome is AAAA bat, but he didn’t fade following his hot start and now finds himself in a pretty good position with what feels like a purge of the big league bench in the works…Pat Wisdom on the other hand has come back to Earth, which is unfortunate with rumors about a Peralta trade starting to swirl…Luke Weaver’s 11 strikeouts were a professional best. He now has 49:7 K:BB ratio.

Class A Advanced: Palm Beach 2 - Ft. Myers 0 (4 Innings) - Suspended

  • Junior Fernandez (SP): 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K

Yesterday's game was suspended due to rain and will resume this afternoon.

Dominican Summer League: DSL Nationals 4 - DSL Cardinals 3

Just to give everyone a refresher on how I cover the DSL and GCL games, I don’t typically go into depth on the box score or have player comments. I will periodically check in on some of the names to know and see how they’ve been doing on the respective teams. Part of the reason is that these games are, especially in the GCL, just a small step up from a scrimmage, the DSL is a weird mix of teenagers and grown adult men, and also to be honest time becomes an issue for me when all 4 full season leagues, plus two short season leagues are up and running. Although that isn’t necessarily an issue today. So, I’ll mostly be linking to the box scores and participating in player discussions in the comments.

Some people don’t care for this policy, which I understand, but the upside is there are about to be a whole lot more teams and players to follow.
