Daily Farm Report: Luke Weaver Is Back, Bryce Denton Homers

S'up, Weavs?

Triple A: Memphis 2 - Omaha 1

  • Tommy Pham (RF): 0-4, BB, K

  • Luke Voit (1B): 3-4, R, HR, RBI

  • Patrick Wisdom (3B): 1-2, R, 3B, 2 BB

  • Paul DeJong (SS): 1-3, RBI, K
  • Harrison Bader (CF): 0-4, 2 K

  • Carson Kelly (C): 0-3, BB, 2 K
  • Luke Weaver (SP): 6 IP, 3  H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K

Luke Voit's home run was his team leading 6th on the season. He's also third in the Pacific Coast League in wRC+. The Memphis lineup is a mix of prospects on the rise and MLB taxi squad guys, but they are almost all familiar names, and as we discussed yesterday they are pretty much all hitting. Except for you, Breyvic...Hey, Luke Weaver is back. Weaver made his second start of the year, and first since being activated after a bout with lower back stiffness. He seems to have picked up where he left off.

Double A: NW Arkansas 6 - Springfield 5 (12 Innings)

  • Oscar Mercado (CF): 2-6, R, K, SB

  • Jacob Wilson (1B): 0-5, R, K

  • Bruce Caldwell (3B): 1-6, 3 K
  • Eliezer Alvarez (2B): 2-5, RBI, BB, K

  • Anthony Garcia (LF): 3-5, 2B, 3 RBI
  • Dickie Joe Thon (DH): 2-5, R, HR, RBI, 2 K

  • Austin Gomber (SP): 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K

Anthony Garcia seems to have the whole "go down to Springfield to get back on track" thing down at this point...Perhaps the jump to more advanced competition and a cozier ballpark is changing the way Austin Gomber is attacking hitters, but he's running a walk rate close to 10% after being in the 6's and 5's in the Midwest and Florida State Leagues respectively over the last couple of seasons. It's early in the season, so this could be just a blip, but it's also a league where the same teams see each other a lot, so it'll be interesting to see if he can adjust.

Class A Advanced: Florida @ Palm Beach (PPD)

Class A: Peoria 8 - Lansing 6

  • Tommy Edman (SS): 0-2, RBI, 2 BB, SB

  • Andrew Knizner (C): 2-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI

  • Brian O'Keefe (DH): 2-5, 2 K

  • Bryce Denton (RF) 2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, HR, BB

  • Dylan Carlson (LF): 0-2, RBI, K

  • Jordan Hicks (SP): 6, 6 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 HR

Bryce Denton's homer was his first in a full-season league. Before the season, it seemed like it may take a while to see what the Cardinals had in their 3 young Peoria outfielders, and injuries have set the timetable back even further. There isn't much to glean out of six games worth of results, but hey, 3 XBH.
