Triple A: Fresno 6 - Memphis 2
- Luke Voit (1B): 1-4, 2B, RBI
- Paul DeJong (SS): 0-3, BB
- Carson Kelly (C): 0-4
- Harrison Bader (CF): 1-4, K
- Patrick Wisdom (3B): 2-4, 2B, K
- Mike Mayers (SP): 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
- Trey Nielsen (RP): 1 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 K
The Memphis attack was finally slowed down. The Grizzlies, led by a pair of Tylers, held the Redbirds to just 2 XBH...Luke Voit's double was his team and league leading 15th of the season...Trey Storm Nielsen made his second appearance for Memphis. In 11.1 IP in Springield he posted his best K% since rookie ball and the best BB% of his professional career. Nielsen was a starter for his first couple of pro seasons and posted solid ERAs, but middling peripherals. He was moved to the pen last season, traded a bunch of grounders for strikeouts and now finds himself a step away from the majors. Given the current state of the big league bullpen, that isn't a bad spot to be either.
Double A: Springfield 7 @ Corpus Christi - PPD Wet Grounds
Class A Advanced: Palm Beach 9 - Lakeland 5
-
Darren Seferina (DH): 2-5, 2 R, HR, RBI, K
- Randy Arozarena (LF-CF): 4-5, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI
- Casey Turgeon (3B-LF): 2-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB
- Chris Chinea (C-1B): 1-5, RBI, K
-
Leobaldo Pina (1B-3B): 1-4, R, HR, RBI, BB, K
- Austin Wilson (RF): 2-3, 2 R
-
Zac Gallen (SP): 4 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Randy Arozarena's hot streak continues. The two doubles he hit last night gives him 8 XBH in his last 6 games. He's added 70 points to his BA and 130 points to his SLG in the last 10 days...Leobaldo Pina was a highly touted SS out of Venezuela who signed with the Cardinals as part of a huge crop of international free agents in 2011. Unfortunately neither the bat nor the glove ever developed like the team had hoped, he still hits like an all-glove SS, last night's home run was the 11th of his pro career, but he has been relegated to the infield corners. He's now an org soldier in his 6th pro season and is, somewhat amazingly, the same baseball age as 8 players the Cardinals drafted in the first 10 rounds last season...Last night was only the second time this season Zac Gallen has given up multiple earned runs.
