Triple A: Memphis 4 - Round Rock 1

  • Tommy Pham (CF):1-4, 2B, BB, SB
  • Luke Voit (1B): 0-4, K
  • Patrick Wisdom (3B): 2-4, R, HR, RBI
  • Paul DeJong (SS): 1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, K
  • Breyvic Valera (2B): 3-4, RBI, K, SB
  • Mike Mayers (SP): 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 3 K
  • Rowan Wick (RP): 1 IP, 1 H,1  K
  • Sam Tuivailala (RP): 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K

Paul DeJong hit his 4th homer over the last 5 games. Since last Thursday he's more than doubled his XBH total for the season and tacked on 25 points to his batting average. He now has a 128 wRC+, although he's still sporting a hideous 28:2 K%:BB%, but we're still early enough in the campaign that a player can turn around his entire season over a long weekend...Pat Wisdom's homer gets his ISO back up to .200 for the year...Memphis has 8 qualified hitters with a wRC+ over 110 and 7 with a wRC+ 124 or higher...Mike Mayers is sporting ugly peripherals but he was able to blank Round Rock on a night when he walked more than he struck out by keeping the ball on the ground...Sam Tuivailala remains unscored upon in AAA this season.

Double A: Arkansas 8 - Springfield 7

  • Oscar Mercado (CF):3-5, R, 2B, 3B, RBI, BB, K
  • Nick Martini (RF): 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI
  • Jose Adolis Garcia (DH): 0-5, 4 K
  • Bruce Caldwell (3B): 0-3, BB, 2 K
  • Jacob Wilson (SS): 1-3, BB, K
  • Anthony Garcia (LF): 2-5, R, K
  • Alex Mejia (SS): 4-5, 3 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI
  • Sandy Alcantara (SP): 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 6 K, 1 HR
  • Daniel Bard (RP): 0 IP, 0 H, 3 R, 3 BB
  • Blake McKnight (RP): 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K

Oscar Mercado's transformation from offensively challenged, glove first SS, who didn't whiff, walk, or hit for power into a CF with power and pop and a ton of swing and miss is bizarre and fascinating. I hope it is still a thing the next time rb takes a look at the system, because I have no idea what is going on. Speaking of the Sunday article, Adolis Garcia's response to rb saying he was a capable CF who was beating up on younger competition was to earn a golden sombrero as a DH...For the second straight season Anthony Garcia is in Springfield trying to get back on track after a tough start in Memphis. He'll be 25 all season, so he still has time to get things figured out, but he was also outrighted off or the 40 man on Thursday. There was a lot of second-guessing about the Cardinals 40 man moves this winter, but there was some justifiable first-guessing as well, and much of it was about keeping both Garcia and Jose Martinez. Hopefully nothing of value was lost in the subsequent raid of the unprotected fringes of the Cardinals 40 man roster, because that would sting quite a bit...Have a day Alex Mejia...Sandy Alcantara struck out 6, but had issues with walks, which is a bit of twist on his season so far...Speaking of which, this looks like it may be the end for Daniel Bard, and it's tough to watch.

Class A Advanced: Palm Beach 8 - Florida 6

  • Magneuris Sierra (CF): 4-5, 2 R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI

  • Blake Drake (RF): 0-3, RBI, 2 K
  • Chris Chinea (1B): 1-4, RBI, 3 K

  • Edmundo Sosa (SS): 1-3, R, 3B, RBI

  • Darren Seferina (2B): 0-4, K

  • Jose Godoy (C) : 4-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI

  • Jake Woodford (SP): 5.2 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HR

The day after rb mentioned Magneuris Sierra's complete lack of power, he doubled his XBH total for the season and added 65 points to his ISO. He still hasn't homered this year though and most of that "power" is turning singles into doubles and doubles into triples...Darren Seferina has cooled off after his hot start, he's 2 for his last 28 and has shaved 124 points of off his batting average over the last 2 weeks...The impeccably named Blake Drake was sent back to the Florida State League as part of the shuffle from Anthony Garcia's demotion... Jake Woodford has been stuck with 9 unearned runs over his last 2 starts, covering 6.1 IP.
