Triple A: Memphis 4 - Oklahoma City 3 (11 Innings)

  • Luke Voit (1B): 0-4, R, BB, K
  • Harrison Bader (CF): 0-4, BB, 2 K
  • Tommy Pham (RF): 1-1, RBI
  • Paul DeJong (SS): 1-5, 2 RBI, K
  • Breyvic Valera (2B): 0-2, 2 BB, CS
  • Patrick Wisdom (3B): 1-5, 2B, K
  • Tyler Lyons (SP): 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Arturo Reyes (RP): 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Rowan Wick (RP): 2 IP, 1 K
  • Sam Tuivailala (RP): 1 IP, 1 K

Memphis Redbirds skipper Stubby Clapp used a double-switch properly, bringing in Tom Pham and Rowan Wick and then letting Wick pitch multiple innings before pinch hitting for him when Wick’s spot came up in the order...Pham knocked in the winning run on a walkoff single...Pat Wisdom’s double was his league-leading 6th of the season...Tyler Lyons was pulled after 73 pitches which may have to do with his impending promotion...The Memphis bullpen allowed one unearned run over 6 and a third innings. Tuivailala and Wick threw 3 perfect innings to close it out...Wick has pitched 2 innings in 3 of his 4 appearances...The Redbirds bullpen has pitched 58.2 total innings this year, struck out 58 and walked 17. Former Yankees prospect Mark Montgomery has 14 strikeouts and 1 walk in 7.1 IP.

Double A: Springfield 3 - Midland 0

  • Oscar Mercado (CF): 1-4, RBI, 2 K
  • Nick Martini (LF) 1-3, R, HR, RBI, BB
  • Jose Adolis Garcia (RF): 0-4, K
  • Bruce Caldwell (3B): 1-3, R, 2B, K
  • Eliezer Alvarez (2B): 0-2, BB, K
  • Jack Flaherty (SP): 7.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K

If it seems like Nick Martini has been around forever, it’s because he has. He was drafted in the 7th round back in 2011. He’s spent parts of the last season in the Memphis outfield, but was forced back down to Springfield due to the logjam in AAA. He’s doing the Lord’s work as an organizational soldier, amassing 666 games played in the Cards’ system over the last 7 seasons...The knock on Jack Flaherty coming into this season was that, while he held his own in the pitcher friendly Midwest and Florida State Leagues the last two seasons he’d yet to put up flashy numbers in full-season ball. So far this year he has struck out 19, walked 1 and allowed 2 runs in 21.1 innings in the pitcher unfriendly Texas League.

Class A Advanced: Palm Beach 3 - Tampa 1

  • Darren Seferina (3B): 1-4, R, 2B, 2 K
  • Edmundo Sosa (SS): 2-4, 2 R, 2B, K
  • Casey Turgeon (LF): 2-4, 2 RBI, K
  • Chris Chinea (1B): 0-3, K
  • Jeremy Martinez (C) : 2-4, RBI, K
  • Randy Arozarena (RF): 1-3, 2B, RBI
  • Jake Woodford (SP): 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K, HR
  • Tyler Bray (RP): 1 IP, 3 K

Darren Seferina appears to have taken over leadoff duties while Magneuris Sierra is on the 7 day concussion DL...Casey Turgeon is repeating the Florida State League again after a disappointing first crack at AA last summer. He hit surprisingly well for given the scoring environment, but struggled to drive the ball against more advanced stuff upon promotion. His bat was interesting as a 2B/3B, but all of his appearances thus far this season have been in LF...Tyler Bray has 10 strikeouts and 0 walks in 5.2 IP.

Class A: Cedar Rapids 8 - Peoria 2

  • Tommy Edman (SS): 1-4, 2B
  • Brian O’Keefe (C): 2-4, 2 K
  • Ryan McCarvel (1B): 1-4, R, HR, 2 K
  • Dylan Carlson (RF): 0-3, 3 K
  • Shane Billings (CF): 1-3, R
  • John Kilichowski (SP): 5 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 3 HR

Dylan Carlson’s early season struggles continued last night, the 0-fer means he still only has 3 hits on the year...John Kilichowski has had a rough couple outings to start the year. He allowed 7 base runners in 4 IP in his first start and gave up 3 homers and 12 total hits last night. 60 of his 89 pitches went for strikes, but the Kernels made a lot of hard contact.
