It was another light schedule on the farm. The Dominican Summer League affiliate helped the system avoid a clean sweep. So come with me, won't you, as we take a tour of the Cardinals' three short-season affiliates who were in action last night.
Class A Short Season: Connecticut 2 - State College 0
- Tommy Edman (2B): 0-4, 2 K
- Jeremy Martinez (C): 1-3, 2B, 2 K
- Danny Hudzen (3B): 1-3, 2B
- Bryan Dobzanski (SP): 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K
- Robby Rowland (RP): 1 IP, 3 K
Jeremy Martinez has been exactly as advertised so far displaying impressive contact ability to go along with a walk rate close to 18%...2016 6th rounder and Stanford product Tommy Edman has been a force at the top of the order, he has a 17/9 BB/K ratio, a .431 OBP and has swiped 6 bags. His 180 wRC+ is 5th in the league among qualified hitters.
Rookie Gulf Coast League: GCL Nationals 8 - GCL Cardinals 1
- Delvin Perez (SS): 1-3, K
- Dylan Carlson (CF): 1-3, 2B, BB, K
- Walker Robbins (DH): 0-4
- Franyel Casakilla (SP): 3.1 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Delvin Perez has hit the ground running in his pro debut, he's hitting .362 with a 154 wRC+ and has stolen 7 bases in 8 attempts...Dylan Carlson and Walker Robbins on the other hand have struggled in their respective pro debuts, both have put up cringe-worthy batting lines.
Domincan Summer League: DSL Cardinals 7 -DSL Angels 3
- Wadye Ynfante (LF): 2-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
- Carlos Soto (C): 1-3, R, 2 BB
- Brian Sanchez (RF): 2-4, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K
- Junior Gonzalez (SP): 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Wadye Ynfante is 18, but has already shown some patience in the DSL. He is batting .368 and has walked (14) more times than he has struck out (13)...Brian Sanchez is not young for the DSL at 20, but he is still putting up a .368/.453/.744 line with 11 homers in 29 games.
