January is coming to a close and while there has been a little action, the hot stove has been pretty tepid so far, particularly for the Cardinals. Heck, tepid my be overstating — the Cardinals Hot Stove has been cold.
#Cardinals, only team yet to add a player to major-league roster via free agency or trade, are incomplete, but Shildt and his staff met all week to plot spring training as scheduled.

The biggest story for the Birdos right now remains the uncertainty around longtime veterans Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright. The team appears to have made some effort in retaining the players. Per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch both players have heard offers. Per Goold:
Bill DeWitt Jr. said the team has made offers to both players. The Post-Dispatch confirmed that through other sources. Molina received at least one offer to re-sign as far back as spring training, and Wainwright has received an offer from the Cardinals this offseason.
In both cases the offer was for less guaranteed than either veteran was set to make in 2020, multiple sources confirmed.
The return of Yadi and Waino would be welcome by Cardinals manager Mike Shildt and other players in the organization. Quite frankly it would be welcome by me, as that would at least give me something about which to write. According to MLB Trade Rumors the pair’s return to St. Louis is what most people in the industry predict.
