Carlos Martínez is scheduled to make his first start since 2018 on Tuesday night. This post was going to be about that until the news of Miles Mikolas having a forearm strain and heading to the 10 Day IL broke a bit ago. Heading into camp Mikolas has issues with that forearm, but it appears to have abated after some rest. He was scheduled to make his first start of 2020 on Wednesday evening.
We can only speculate on the pitcher that will take his spot in the rotation. The Cardinals do have Jack Flaherty available on full rest for Wednesday, should that be the route they wish to take. Kwang Hyun Kim has been used in the closer role so far, but was a starter for most of his career in the KBO. John Gant and Daniel Ponce De Leon have made starts for the Cardinals in the past. Austin Gomber came up as a starter. There are some options. What we do know is that two players will join the team:
Mikolas’ spring injury persists. His summer camp results and how he recovered were a clue to added concern. https://t.co/phxcjKCLes

One scenario under discussion, according to source with direct knowledge: Marlins, Phillies would quarantine for undetermined period. Yankees would travel to Baltimore and play Orioles on Wednesday and Thursday. Marlins, Phillies would try to make up postponed games later.
