On this day in 2011 the Cardinals were going to the World Series! - A Hunt and Peck

It was a good year.

Ah 2011... I remember it fondly. Unfortunately the Cardinals were booted from the postseason this year in the first round, but the nice thing for Cardinals fans is there are plenty of nice playoff memories to tide us over. Let’s look at what happened on this day in years past...

EW NO! NO! How did the moment the moment that made me the angriest I have ever been at Mike Matheny and the most predictable baseball thing to ever happen get in this post? Gross, moving on...

Here this is better. On this day in 2011 the Cardinals defeated the Brewers 12-6 and set a record with six home runs hit in the first three innings of the game. David Freese continued his legendary postseason going 12-22, scoring seven runs and batting in 9 runs, with two walks, three doubles, and three homers for a slash line of .545/.600/1.691.* He was the obvious series MVP (though Albert Pujols also had a great series) and the Cardinals went on the face the Texas Rangers in the World Series.

*holy cats just typing it out now it is still incredible
