January is boring; here are some excellent Cardinals catches according to StatCast - A Hunt and Peck

Let’s watch some cool plays!

By now most of us have heard of StatCast. If you have not, let me break it down for you with some help from’s handy, dandy glossary. StatCast is a tracking system that is currently employed by Major League Baseball. It uses radar and cameras to track things that are unseen to the naked eye, like launch angle, exit velocity, and even sprint speed. It is still a very new tool, but it has added a lot of interesting data that might help us further understand certain batted ball outcomes and better predict player performance.

In recent years the Cardinals were not known for have great defense, but much of that changed in the 2019 season with the team have six Gold Glove finalists. This stellar defense has led to some pretty slick plays in the field. StatCast has recorded them all and has put together a video of some of the top catches from 2019. Here they are:
