MLB Trade Rumors recently published a ranking of free agent spending by all teams in each respective league. This is the total contract amounts the teams have agreed to take on so far this offseason. On Wednesday a breakdown of the National League was posted. The Cardinals ranked 12th on list at $15 million. Here is how they have spent that money so far:
Adam Wainwright — one year, $5 million
Gwang-hyun Kim — two years, $8 million
Matt Wieters — one year, $2 million
The Nationals top the list for the National league at $316.75 million spent on ten players. Of NL Central teams the Cardinals spent the third most after the Reds and Brewers, which spent $164 million of four players and $48.38 million on eight players, respectively. The Cubs have spent $2.5 million of three players. The Pirates signed Guillermo Heredia and Luke Maile who each be arbitration eligible in 2021 and are each set to make under $1 million in 2020.
