Each year Major League Baseball nominates a player from every team for the Roberto Clemente award in a tribute to the late player’s achievements on the field and philanthropy efforts. Per MLB:
The Roberto Clemente Award is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
Receiving the nomination for the Cardinals this season is Adam Wainwright. Waino was nominated for his efforts with Big League Impact, a foundation he founded in 2013. Wainwright has gone on mission trips to provide clean water and other aid. His foundation provides aid to sex trafficking victims, and has partnered with Food for the Hungry. Per MLB:
“This season, Adam created the ALL WIN fundraising campaign to provide healthy meals across the St. Louis region.
... This year, Adam and country musician Garth Brooks established a partnership between their foundations on the Home Plate Program, which is supported by MLB and all 30 MLB Clubs, to provide meals for children across all MLB Club markets.”
Congrats to Adam Wainwright — his efforts to makes the world a better place are admirable and inspiring.
