A look at the Cardinals’ playoff odds - A Hunt and Peck

Never tell me the odds! (But yeah, lemme see these.)

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Alternate title of this post: The Cardinals have been kickin’ butt.

After a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad May and an aggressively mediocre June, the Cardinals went 16-9 and July and have gone 15-8 so far in August. In Tuesday’s game against the Brewers they will attempt to tie a season high six-game winning streak. The team has won eight of their last ten, with one of those losses being the game that was called after only seven full innings. The Cardinals have been soaring lately while their competition heads to the trash.* Enough of me talking about it, though — let’s look at the Fangraphs Playoff Odds graph:

My favorite part is where the Cardinals’ line goes above the Cubs’ line. I am still workshopping names for this, but right now I am thinking something like “The Schadenfreude Curve” or the “Brock-Broglio Intersection”. Please feel free to help me out with this.

The bottom line is things are lookin’ up for our heroes. Perhaps 2019 will be the year the Cardinals snap their three-year playoffless streak.

*Disclaimer: I wrote a similar post about this last season and nearly immediately jinxed the Cardinals. I apologize in advance.
