The 2019 MLB All Star Game is slated to be played July 9 in Cleveland. Representing the Cardinals will be shortstop Paul DeJong in his first ever All Star Game selection. DeJong was chosen by the Commissioners Office.
The Cardinals shortstop got off to a hot start to the season and at the time was neck-and-neck with Corey Seager as the top shortstop in baseball. Since then both players have cooled down, though per fWAR DeJong is tied with Trevor Story for sixth place with 2.9. Both Story and DeJong are right behind the All Star starter Javier Báez at 3.0.
In what has been a shaky years for the Cardinals, DeJong has easily been the team’s most consistent and best player. Hopefully this is the first selection of many more to come!
