The Blues are going to the Stanley Cup Finals! - A Hunt and Peck

It is pretty great!

MLB: Cincinnati Reds at St. Louis Cardinals Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

This is a baseball blog, but there appears to be a bit of crossover in the fan bases of the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues. I mean...

The Cardinals have had a rough go of late, so it is nice to have the Blues playing well... really well. The Blues have made it to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1970. To relate this back to baseball, since 1970...

  • The Cardinals have gone to the World Series seven times...
  • and won the World Series three times.
  • the Cardinals uniform changed from this.
  • Bob Gibson (the team’s best player in 1970 with 10.1 rWAR) has a statue in his honor
Astros V Cardinals
  • the league expanded its divisions and the Cardinals went from the NL East to NL Central.
  • Red Schoendienst has been the Cardinal’s manager twice!
  • Lou Brock became the single season stolen base leader (1974 with 118) and the All-Time Stolen Base leader (in 1977 ending his career with 938)...
  • and both of those records have since been broken by Rickey Henderson in 1982 with 130 and 1991, ending his career with 1406, respectively.
  • and lastly, though this is not baseball related, the football Cardinals moved to Arizona. Then the Rams moved to St. Louis and won a Super Bowl. Then the Rams moved to Los Angeles.

A lot has happened in forty-nine years. Hopefully a lot more happens in the next few weeks so I can keep doing these Blues/Cardinals write-ups!
