Several weeks ago Cardinals fans were asked to vote in two players to be inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame from a group that included Keith Hernandez, Jason Isringhausen, Matt Morris, Edgar Renteria, Scott Rolen, and John Tudor. After six weeks the fans have spoken. Izzy and Rolen are going into the Cardinals Hall of Fame. Joining them is the veteran committee choice, Mort Cooper.
Jen Langosch of MLB.com does, as always, some excellent reporting on the story, including the tale of Rolen being pulled over as he spoke about the honor. Per Langosch:
“I was going 59 [mph] in a 45 [mph zone], he said,” reported Rolen. “You ask me how excited I was, and I just answered it.”
She includes some other details about the pair of former Birdos, so I will not rehash that. Instead, let’s watch some highlights!
