Yadier Molina called his shot... - A Hunt and Peck

...against his old pal, Adam Wainwright.

I have written about Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina’s relationship before. They are both long-time veterans of the St. Louis Cardinals. They have been battery-mates for over a decade. They have won two World Series together (though Wainwright spent the 2011 season recovering from Tommy John surgery). Through the years the two have developed a strong friendship.

Sometimes that friendship leads to shenanigans. On Monday the Cardinals played in their last Spring Training game of the year in the Battle of the Birds. An interesting wrinkle, in an attempt to get more work in for the starters, put Adam Wainwright on the mound for the Redbirds - the Memphis Redbirds. Longtime friends squared off and the mischief began:

Per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch:

He [Molina] walked to the plate and pointed his bat to left field -- calling his shot, Ruth-like. Wainwright grinned. He threw inside. He tested Molina with a 91-mph fastball. He got a groundout to shortstop and the game motored on.

Waino got the out from Molina, but this was not the case with Marcell Ozuna, who bashed a three-run tater, propelling the Cardinals to their 6-3 victory.

Shoutout to @MelissaMeador14 for being quick with the camera, otherwise we might have missed out on this excellent content. That is a alternate reality I am happy to have avoided.
