I am going to let you all in on a little secret about me: I am not a coffee drinker. I like sweets and coffee is... not sweet. I know there are ways you can make it sweet, but at that point I feel like I should just drink something else. I have been known to drink a Mountain Dew or two, though. As we are all aware, Mountain Dew is highly caffeinated and over the years I have learned this has a pretty clear impact on me. I start talking a lot — a lot about nothing. My foot will start tapping. I am energized to take on projects. I feel wonderful and terrible all at once.
(I had a Mountain Dew this morning, folks.)
Anyway, I know first-hand the effects of caffeine. Apparently so does Adam Wainwright. Perhaps you have heard about the newest business venture of Cardinals outfielder José Martínez. The high-energy outfielder has long been nicknamed “Cafécito” (translated to “little coffee” in English; Martínez’s father was called “Café” which is “coffee”), but now he is looking to expand that nickname. Per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch:
With the help of Primos Coffee, a Texas-based roaster, Martinez has developed his own brand of coffee, grown in Nicaragua. The brand comes complete with a logo that features his number (38), his signature, his silhouette, and, of course, his nickname, “Cafecito.” (Martinez has even been wearing a T-shirt around the clubhouse that reads, “Wake Up to Cafecito,” and features a cartoon of him leaping from a cup of a coffee.)
This new enterprise has the support from his teammates. After giving it a try, Waino was even inspired to create a theme song (with a little help from a song by Luis Fonsi):
I tried some of @Cafejr40 new coffee and it had me singing cafecito instead of despacito! Y’all need to get some of this coffee for yourselves!!! Great job hermano!!! @primoscafecito @primoscoffeeco @cafejr40 @LuisFonsi https://t.co/4z6UrWAW6q

It would not hurt the Cardinals to get a little more pep in their step. Perhaps this is just the fuel they need for the long grind that is the MLB regular season.
