Among some of the other little rumors that have been shuffled about this offseason there have been whispers of negotiations with Paul Goldschmidt for a contract extension. It was certainly something that makes sense for both parties; the Cardinals have long been known to make trades for players they would want to offer longer contracts to and Goldschmidt is an excellent player in the final year of his current contract. It just makes sense, though generally in the past these kinds of deals seem to get done during the season or at its conclusion. According to @IvesBaseballSTL, the Cardinals and Goldschmidt have a deal in place, though Mark Saxon of the Athletic says he was unable to confirm this:
When I checked on this, I did not get the same information Hunter did. https://t.co/M4uGTRTDFk

Now I am not sure who this is or his source, but it the news had made its way around the internet, so it seemed worth exploring. Personally, I would find it extremely amusing if some seemingly random dude broke the news of a Goldschmidt extension before everyone else. If this is someone trolling, he certainly did a good job. I guess we wait and see what happens.
