It was likely when the 2019 season ended that it would be Michael Wacha’s final for the St. Louis Cardinals. While we cannot rule out a reunion in the distant future, that likelihood grew further to the truth on Wednesday as Wacha and the New York Mets agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Mets. The Mets will pay Wacha at least $3 million and up to $7 million with incentives.
It is weird to Wacha accepting a bounce-back deal, is it not? Wacha took St. Louis by storm when he made his debut in 2013, later going on to be named MVP of the NLCS. From there he continued to improve until 2016, when it was discovered he had a shoulder issue that would plague him for the rest of his time in St. Louis. When healthy, Michael Wacha was an above average starter, but health was always a question mark.
Regardless, his time in St. Louis was a success and for that, we thank you, Michael Wacha.
