It is Thanksgiving week in the United States and I do not have much to write about. News is sort of slow in the baseball world. So let’s enjoy an oldie, but goodie.
The day was October 2, 1987, the scene: The bottom of the fourth inning in Game 4 of the World Series. The Twins led the Cardinals 2-1 in the series and the pivotal Game 4 was all tied up. Enter Tom Lawless.
We all know the story. Lawless was not even really supposed to start. He made 29 plate appearances in 1987 and had 2 total hits. He appeared in 19 games all season, yet there he was starting in one of the Cardinals most important games of the season.
