Aw shucks, let’s watch Tom Lawless flip a bat again - A Hunt and Peck

Why not?

MLB: Atlanta Braves at St. Louis Cardinals Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

It is Thanksgiving week in the United States and I do not have much to write about. News is sort of slow in the baseball world. So let’s enjoy an oldie, but goodie.

The day was October 2, 1987, the scene: The bottom of the fourth inning in Game 4 of the World Series. The Twins led the Cardinals 2-1 in the series and the pivotal Game 4 was all tied up. Enter Tom Lawless.

We all know the story. Lawless was not even really supposed to start. He made 29 plate appearances in 1987 and had 2 total hits. He appeared in 19 games all season, yet there he was starting in one of the Cardinals most important games of the season.

As they say, the rest was history:
