Mike Shildt is awarded Manager of the Year - A Hunt and Peck

More so than any other award, Manager of the Year seems to be based on narrative. The struggling team climbs back into contention, an unexpected team turns out to be a contender, despite many obstacles a team overcomes to win, the superteam... all narratives for a Manager of the Year award.

After two seasons missing the playoffs and another underwhelming season halfway through, the Cardinals fired Mike Matheny and hired Mike Shildt to manage the club. Since then the Cardinals have been 132-99 and in 2019 made the playoffs once again. For that he was named the National League’s 2019 Manager of the Year. Congrats!
