Game7 of the World Series; it does not get any better.
On Monday I wrote about how no World Series has had the home team lose every game. Tonight could change that. The road team has won the last three World Series deciders. Tonight could change that. With the series tied 3-3 the Washington Nationals take on the Houston Astros for a deciding Game 7. Max Scherzer will take the mound against Zack Greinke. It is exciting stuff.
Wednesday evening’s game marks the 40th time the World Series has gone to a deciding game*. Of those 40, the Cardinals have played in 11 of them, going 8-3. Here is a list of those game along with the outcomes:
1926 — Cardinals 3, Yankees 2 — The Babe Ruth caught stealing game
1931 — Cardinals 4, Athletics 2 — The Cardinals get revenge for the 1930
1934 — Cardinals 11, Tigers 0 — The Dizzy Dean pitches on one-day’s rest game
1946 — Cardinals 4, Red Sox 3 — The Enos Slaughter hustles game
1964 — Cardinals 7, Yankees 5 — The heroic Bob Gibson game
1967 — Cardinals 7, Red Sox 2 — The heroic Bob Gibson sequel game
1968 — Tigers 4, Cardinals 1 — The Cardinals first Game 7 loss game
1982 — Cardinals 6, Brewers 3 — The Joaquin Andujar gets his ring game
1985 — Royals 11, Cardinals 0 — The game after the Denkinger game game
1987 — Twins 4, Cardinals 2 — The Frank Viola redemption game
2011 — Cardinals 6, Rangers 2 — The game after the David Freese game game
