The Cardinals are crushing any team in their way - A Hunt and Peck

But there is still a lot of games left...

The Cardinals have gone an absolute tear as of late, going 18-4 so far in the month of August, trashing the hopes and dreams of any team that stands in their way.

In the meantime, the Cardinals playoff hopes are growing from “small chance” to “actual possibility”:

This is a bit of a change from the last time the Cardinals went on a huge run to overcome shrinking playoff odds. Of course, the time I am referring to was 2011, when at this time the Cardinals were 10 games back with 31 games left to play. The Cardinals went 23-8 down the stretch to make up those games and sneak into the playoffs one game ahead of the Atlanta Braves.

The 2018 Cardinals currently sit in second place in the NL Central, just three back of the leading Cubs with 34 games left to play. The 2011 team ended the season with 90 wins. To end the season with as many wins as the 2011 team, the 2018 team needs to go at least 19-15 the rest of the season. The remaining schedule is:

  • 3 games against the Rockies (70-57)
  • 6 games against the Pirates (63-65)
  • 3 games against the Reds (56-72)
  • 3 games against the Nationals (64-64)
  • 3 games against the Tigers (53-75)
  • 4 games against the Dogders (67-61)
  • 3 games against the Braves (72-55)
  • 3 games against the Giants (62-66)
  • 3 games against the Brewers (71-58)
  • 3 games against the Cubs (73-53)

Here we go. Someone get some extra salsa.
