In an alternate universe, Pat Neshek was a Somerset Patriot - A Hunt and Peck

Funny how things work out...

It is 2014. The Cardinals are looking for some help in the bullpen. The team extends a minor league deal to Pat Neshek. Neshek ultimately impresses the team and makes the major league roster. At first he is used in lower leverage situations, until his success earns him tougher and tougher assignments. Towards the end of the season he starts to close out games. He finished the season with over 37 innings in 71 appearances, 7 wins, 2 losses, 6 saves, a 1.87 ERA, and 2.37 FIP. This performance earned Neshek a $12.5 million, two year deal from the Astros. After that he signed a $16.2 million, two year deal with the Angels.

In 2014 Pat Neshek accepted a minor-league deal with the Cardinals and the rest, as they say, was history.

But if he had checked his Facebook messages, would that have happened? Would he have taken a deal with the Somerset Patriots? We have no way of knowing. As for Neshek, it all worked out okay.
