The triumphant return of the Paul Goldschmidt Rumors - A Hunt and Peck

Things are starting to look serious.

I am going to let you all in on a little secret. Sometimes when I write these posts, I put “rumor” in the title not so much because there are rumors to reports, but more so because there are rumors to start. Of course, I try to make it clear that I am just looking at the options and making guesses about which players the Cardinals may be interested; I have my journalistic integrity to maintain, after all. Sometimes these guesses are right. It is not that often, but a blind squirrel and a broken clock and all that.

I say all this because we at Viva El Birdos have been discussing Paul Goldschmidt as a trade target since the Diamondbacks announced they might be willing to part ways with the All Star first baseman. What started as a hunch is now a Full Blown Rumor. Per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, while no deal is imminent, the Cardinals and Diamondbacks have had serious discussions. Per Goold:

The Cardinals are as well positioned as any team in the majors to take on salary and to move pitching talent in a trade. They also continue to have depth in the outfield... that would allow them to include a young outfielder that is major league-ready or close with as much as six years of salary control.

With Winter Meetings next weeks, talks between the Cardinals and Diamondbacks should really make the rumors start to heat up. As always, we will wait.
