Yadier Molina wins Gold Glove award - A Hunt and Peck

For ninth time the Cardinals catcher is the winner.

On Sunday evening Rawlings announced the winners of their 2018 Gold Glove awards. Kolten Wong and Yadier Molina were among the finalists. After a two-season drought, Molina has once again received the gilded hardware. This is Molina’s ninth time winning the award.

Among National League catchers there were only six with greater than 800 innings or over 100 games. Of those six, Molina once again excelled in preventing base stealers with only twenty-seven stolen bases allowed. A close second was Miami’s J.T. Realmuto with 34. Molina, despite missing a month with an injury, also logged over one-thousand innings behind the plate, coming in third behind Wilson Contreras and Yasmani Grandal. More advanced metrics have Molina behind the likes of Contreras, Grandal, Jorge Alfaro of the Phillies, and Realmuto. But advanced metrics do not capture things like this:

In my book, that is an automatic Gold Glove.
