On Monday Josh Donaldson signed a deal with the Atlanta Braves for one-year of service in exchange for $23 million. Many Cardinals fans, for years really, had looked at Donaldson as a viable option to improve the club. Alas, it was not meant to be. The Cardinals did reach out to Donaldson, though, per Mark Saxon of The Athletic:
I'm told that while the #STLCards did speak with Josh Donaldson's agent, they felt they were dealing with "headwinds" all along given Donaldson's southern roots and familiarity with Atlanta's front office and training staff

If this is true, the Cardinals did their due-diligence, but acquiring Josh Donaldson just was not in the Cards.
