The deadline for certain non-tender decisions is today. Essentially, the Cardinals must chose the players they wish to protect from the Rule 5 Draft. There were several players that were possible candidates. Today, the team made some of those choices known:
The #STLCards have selected the following player’s contracts from Memphis:— St. Louis Cardinals (@Cardinals) November 20, 2018
LHP Génesis Cabrera
RHP Ryan Helsley
OF Lane Thomas
INF Ramón Urías
To make room on the roster, RHPs Conner Greene & Derian Gonzalez were designated for assignment. The club's 40-man roster is now at 40. pic.twitter.com/KnkXtvWXKs
The most notable players left unprotected are Max Schrock and Junior Fernandez. There is still a chance they will make it through the Rule 5 Draft unclaimed and stay with the Cardinals, but they are at risk. On December 13, we shall know their fate.
