Marcell Ozuna has his shoulder cleaned up - A Hunt and Peck

Late in the season Marcell Ozuna received a cortisone shot for his shoulder. The shoulder was an obvious aliment that at times even prevented the right fielder from throwing. After the shot Ozuna seemed to be doing much better. He was hitting more flyballs out of the infield and pulling the ball more. With the season now over, Ozuna apparently underwent more procedures on his shoulder. Per Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com:

Cardinals outfielder Marcell Ozuna underwent a cleanup procedure on his right shoulder designed to address an impingement and lingering inflammation.

President of baseball operations John Mozeliak confirmed the surgery took place and relayed that Dr. ElAttrache is “optimistic and confident Marcell will begin Spring Training at 100 percent.” That would be an improvement over his status last spring, when Ozuna reported to Jupiter, Fla., bothered by the same nagging shoulder pain. Ozuna played through that discomfort all season.

The Cardinals appear to have determined that last season’s method of hoping the problem goes away was not quite the best strategy. Hopefully this scope will put Marcell in tip-top shape for 2019.
