Late in 2017 season Trevor Rosenthal underwent Tommy John surgery. In the following offseason he became a free agent after he and the Cardinals failed to reach a deal. The former Cardinals closer spent all of 2018 rehabbing to prepare for his return back to a Major League roster. According to Bob Nightengale, Rosenthal is back and headed to Washington D.C.:
Nationals are nearing a deal with former Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal, as @BNightengale mentioned. Rosenthal missed last year rehabbing from Tommy John.

This deal would be the first free agent signing of the offseason. The Nationals do not appear to be messing around with this deal either...

Rosenthal looked pretty good in his rehab videos. Apparently the Nationals saw something they liked.
