The Cardinals bullpen has been a subject of attention since the 2017 season. Many fans looked at the offseason as a chance for the team to make upgrades to this part of the team. (A. E. Schafer discussed this very subject on Saturday.) With the loss of Trevor Rosenthal, the glaring need for a closer put the Cardinals in the thick of the rumors surrounding relievers. The names garnering the most talk were Álex Colomé, Addison Reed, and the team was even linked to Wade Davis and Greg Holland earlier in the offseason. Though the Birdos could still pick up a veteran reliever, as of now they have settled on a pitcher to close out their games. Per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch:

Now, if I know the Cardinals, Tyler Lyons or something will be closing out games by the end of June, but this is the plan for now. While Luke Gregerson has some areas that could use improving - looking at you, last year’s home run to flyball ratio - with his experience and strong strikeout numbers, he might be the Cardinals best bet to start the season... that is if nothing changes.
