The Redbirds are Champions! - A Hunt and Peck

The Cardinals AAA affiliate has won its third Pacific Coast League Championship.

Minor League Baseball: Nashville Sounds at Memphis Redbirds Yalonda M. James-USA TODAY Sports

While the weekend for the major league Birdos was well... is disaster too strong of a word? Catastrophe? Wreck? Anyway, it was bad. Very bad, indeed. There is some good news! The playoff odds for the St. Louis Cardinals took a very major hit this weekend, but the team’s AAA affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, had already made the Pacific Coast League playoffs after an incredibly successful year. The team went 91-50 on the year, becoming the American Southern Division Champions by a whopping twenty-two games. All this while their team was plundered by the big league club.

The Redbirds not only made it to the playoffs as heavy favorites, they won the whole. damn. thing.

This is the third time the Redbirds are PCL champs.

Check out are section Future Redbirds for info on the team’s battle through the playoffs and for more stats and analysis on the game. The Baby Birdos season is not quite over yet, as the team will face the Durham Bulls in the Triple-A Championship. Josey Curtis has more on that in Monday’s Future Redbirds article.
