A few weeks ago, our very own John Fleming wrote an article titled "The St. Louis Cardinals should host a Pride Night at Busch Stadium". While that post faced some opposition, many of the responses were positive. As John pointed out in the article the Cardinals, as a major part of St. Louis and a key influence in the area, are in the perfect position to make a statement about inclusion and acceptance. Now, exactly two weeks later, the headline "Cardinals planning Pride Night at Busch Stadium" can be found on STLToday.com. Per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch:
A team official confirmed that the Cardinals are "actively planning" a Pride Night at the ballpark that could take place as soon as this season and no later than 2018. The team’s sales department has started contacting groups in the St. Louis area to help organize and promote a theme-ticket event. This effort comes more than a year after Tyler Dunnington’s descriptions prompted reporters to ask what public stance the Cardinals could take for inclusion, and shortly after a well-regarded fan blog, Viva El Birdos, championed a Pride Night.
The event is still in the early stages of planning, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as more details are released. Should be fun!
