The Cardinals without Peralta seems quite bleak, indeed - A Hunt and Peck

The Cardinals starting shortstop may be out two to three months with a torn thumb ligament.

Caylor Arnold-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier Monday morning it was reported that Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta had left camp early to seek a second opinion on what is believed to be a torn thumb ligament on his left hand. General Manager John Mozeliak stated that the initial MRI confirmed that there is tear in the ligament and the Cardinals starting shortstop may be out two to three months.

Likely candidates to fill in for Peralta appear to be Jedd Gyorko, Greg Garcia, and Aledmys Diaz, but Mo has not eliminated the possibility of looking outside the organization. Per Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post Dispatch:

"The outcome of the second opinion will dictate whether we have to look outside (the organization)," said Mozeliak. "Right now it would be all hands on deck unless there was an outside solution we would consider."

Get well soon, Jhonny!
