Cardinals' youth caught the attention of David Price - A Hunt and Peck

Among other things...

Before accepting an offer from the Red Sox, free agent left-hander David Price had largely hinted at wanting to play for the Cubs or the Cardinals. The reason: Youth. While some free agents claimed to prefer the team in Chicago due to a perceived "aging core", the opposite is what made St. Louis even more enticing for Price.

"... I wanted to be around youth. I definitely viewed (the Cardinals) as young as well."

Price stated, per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

While ultimately the Red Sox won out with the more impressive offer, Price, a Tennessee native, still had nothing but kind word to say about the Cardinals organization:

"I feel like every year they battle through... They're going to have some big injuries and they rarely use it as an excuse and they still win 95 to 100 games and play good baseball. I took notice of that over the years. I'm still a fan of St. Louis and the Cardinals."

The Cardinals have long had eyes for Price, and though it has become more unlikely now, maybe still we might one day see him wearing the Birds on the Bat.
