MLB Draft: St. Louis Cardinals come to terms with 4th-round pick Paul DeJong

The St. Louis Cardinals selected Paul DeJong, a senior from Illinois State, in the fourth round of the 2015 MLB Draft. DeJong is a versatile player who posted good batting stats while playing third base, shortstop, second base, and catcher. For what it's worth, the Cardinals' tweet announcing the selection of DeJong gave his position as left field. St. Louis has apparently come to terms with DeJong on a contract.

Why do I write "apparently"? Because, as of this writing, the MLB.com page with the Cardinals' picks lists DeJong as "unsigned":

But this is the social media age and DeJong has an unprotected Twitter account. His tweets indicate he is on his way to instructionals in Florida. I did a screengrab of DeJong's last two tweets—one from after the Cardinals announced they had picked him and the most recent from Saturday morning:

In all likelihood, the Cardinals and DeJong have come to terms on an agreement pending the results of a physical that will be performed in Florida. If DeJong passes his physical, the parties will sign the contract. This is not an insignificant formality. You'll recall the events that unfolded between the Astros and top pick Brady Aiken a year ago. But more often than not, the physical is just a formality. Hopefully that's the case for DeJong. We'll let you know when/if the terms of the deal become public.

In the meantime, you can listen to Rob Rains's interview with DeJong here. And, thanks to Baseball Cube, peruse DeJong's stats:
