Daily Farm Report - 8/3/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' farm system.

A great night in the system if your a fan of pitching as Springfield and Palm Beach had two one-hit shutouts. The system goes 6-0 W-L excluding the lower Rookie Ball clubs. Anthony Ferrara had a nine strikeout performance in seven shutout innings. Ryan Sherriff had a no-hitter going through eight innings but gave up a lead-off single that ended the bid but Sherriff did have a one-hit complete shutout to his credit.

Memphis 4, Las Vegas 3

  • Mike O'Neill singled and recorded his first walk in Triple-A.
  • Jamie Romak was 2-4 with a double.
  • Chad Huffman drove in Romak with an RBI single.
  • Ryan Jackson had a sac fly which was his 28th RBI on the season.
  • Scott McGregor not only tossed seven innings of three-run ball but he also helped his cause with a sac fly.
  • Fernando Salas converted his sixth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Springfield 4, Arkansas 0

  • Stephen Piscotty hit an RBI double and walked twice.
  • Luis Mateo was 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI.
  • Anthony Ferrara was sensational as he pitched seven shutout frames of one-hit ball with no walks and nine strikeouts. This coming after he walked seven in his last start off the DL.
  • Lee Stoppelman continues the "unstoppelness" pitching as he sat down three straight in the ninth to secure the win for Springfield. Stoppelman now has a 1.30 ERA at Springfield.

Palm Beach 7, Dunedin 0

  • Jonathan Rodriguez is hitting the cover off the ball of late as he was 2-5 with an RBI. The nimble first baseman also swiped his 18th stolen base of the season.
  • Danny Stienstra had three hits one for an RBI.
  • Ronny Gil hit an RBI double.
  • Matt Williams was 2-4 with a solo homer and stolen base.
  • Ryan Sherriff pitched a brilliant one-hit complete game shutout with only walked and three strikeouts. Sherriff had a lot of success via the groundout with thirteen groundouts induced in this game.

Peoria 2, Burlington 1

  • Breyvic Valera had an RBI groundout.
  • Ildemaro Vargas collected two hits one for an RBI.
  • Brad Watson pitched six solid innings he gave up one earned on four hits, he walked three and struck out four.
  • Sam Tuivailala pitched two scoreless with one strikeout.
  • Thomas Lee converted the save with two strikeouts in a scoreless outing.

State College 2, Vermont 1

  • Jimmy Bosco had a four-hit game (three singles, one double) and walked.
  • Cesar Valera had one hit which was for an RBI.
  • Steven Ramos hit an RBI double.
  • Willy Paulino pitched six strong innings gave up one earned on three hits, the big right-hander walked three and struck out eight on the night.

Johnson City 5, Kingsport 3

  • Vaughn Bryan one hit was a 2-run RBI double gives him 16 RBI on the season.
  • Justin Ringo hit a solo shot his 3rd on the season.
  • Steve Bean was 1-3 with an RBI single and walk. Have to keep him healthy.
  • Devante Lacy hit an RBI double.
  • Blake McKnight was impressive in seven innings he gave up one earned on seven hits, walked one and struck out three. The sinker-baller induced fourteen groundouts.
  • Fernando Baez fanned two in a scoreless 9th to convert the save.
