Daily Farm Report - 8/27/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' farm system.

Memphis 8, New Orleans 2

  • Ryan Jackson was 2-for-4 with a walk.
  • Jamie Romak was 4-for-5 with his 22nd home run of the season.
  • Greg Garcia was 2-for-4 with a walk.
  • Boone Whiting struck out 9 in 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks.
  • Deryk Hooker pitched 2 scoreless innings allowing 1 walk and 2 hits.
  • Memphis squared off against former Cardinal prospect Adam Reifer who threw a scoreless, 1-walk inning. Reifer has fared reasonably well with New Orleans seeing his strikeout rate return to firmer footing. Control has proven to be an issue, however.

Springfield 4, Arkansas 8

  • Stephen Piscotty was 3-for-4 with his 6th home run in Springfield.
  • Xavier Scruggs was 1-for-4 with his 26th home run.
  • Tim Cooney ran into trouble in the 4th and 5th innings. He managed to hang on for 6 innings allowing 7 runs on 11 hits. He struck out 5 and walked 1.
  • Zach Russel pitched a scoreless frame with 1 strikeout.

Palm Beach 5, Fort Myers 4 (8 innings)

Palm Beach 1, Fort Myers 0 (7 innings)

  • Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with his 18th home run of the season and drew a walk.
  • Palm Beach managed 8 hits and 3 walks in the game. Rodriguez had the only extra base hit.
  • Joe Cuda struck out 5 in 5 shutout innings. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks.
  • Thomas Lee allowed 3 hits in 2 innings of work.

Peoria 2, Cedar Rapids 4

State College 5, Williamsport 3 (11 innings)

  • Steven Ramos, CF, was 2-for-5.
  • State College had some timely hitting though they only wound up with 8 hits and 3 walks in the game. Two walks and two hits coming in the 11th gave State College a 3 run lead going into the bottom half.
  • Arturo Reyes struck out 5 in 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks.
  • Jhonny Polanco struck out 2 and walked 1 in 2 innings. He allowed 3 hits.

Johnson City 2, Danville 0

  • Kenneth Peoples-Walls, SS, was 2-for-4 and the only hitter to reach base twice.
  • Johnosn City had 9 hits and 1 walk.
  • Nick Lomascolo struck out an impressive 8 in 6 innings of work. He walked 1 and allowed a hit.
  • Fernando Baez pitched a scoreless 9th allowing 1 walk for his 6th save.
