Daily Farm Report - 8/18/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals farm system.

Memphis 2, Omaha 5

  • Mike O'Neill was 1-for-4 with a walk.
  • Brock Peterson was 2-for-4 with a triple.
  • Carlos Martinez had a messy outing with 5 runs allowed in 4 innings. He walked 3 and allowed 4 hits while striking out 6. Martinez needed 88 pitches to get through the 4 innings.
  • Jorge Rondon and Deryk Hooker each pitched a pair of innings. They allowed 2 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2.
  • Sam Freeman finished up the game with a 1-strikeout 9th.

Springfield 3, Midland 2

Palm Beach 0, Charlotte 2 (7 innings)

  • Palm Beach recorded just 3 singles in the game.
  • Hector Hernandez struck out 8 in 5.1 innings of work. He walked 1 and allowed 7 hits for 2 unearned runs.

Peoria 1, Cedar Rapids 3

State College 4, Batavia 0

  • Steve Ramos, CF, was 2-for-4 with a triple. The 23 year old is batting .359 in 170 at bats at State College.
  • David Washington, 1B, was 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Jimmy Reed pitched 6 shutout innings allowing 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. Reed had a bit of a lucky day as he wasn't even generating many groundballs ending the day with an even split on groundouts and flyouts.
  • Chase Brookshire struck out 4 in 3 innings of work allowing just 1 hit.

Johnson City 9, Bristol 2 (5 innings)

  • Justin Ringo, 1B, was 3-for-4.
  • Kenneth Peoples-Walls, SS, was 3-for-3 with his 6th home run. Peoples-Walls is on pace to hit 20 HR given a full season. He's young (just turned 20) and currently playing shortstop. This is a player to watch. Keep an eye on the strikeout and walk rate as he moves up through the system. That's probably going to be the indicator of whether he can ascend further.
  • J.J. Antobelli, 3B, was 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Stalyn Lopez struck out 5 in 3 innings of work. He allowed 3 hits and walked 1.
