Daily Farm Report - 7/9/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' farm system.

Memphis 2, Omaha 1

  • Tommy Pham was 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Memphis scratched out 6 hits compared to Omaha's 4. Memphis had 1 walk while Omaha had 2. Both pitching staffs were really in control of this game.
  • Scott McGregor allowed 4 hits including a solo home run over 6 innings of work. He struck out 3 and walked 2.
  • Sam Freeman pitched a pair of perfect innings striking out 1.
  • Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless inning striking out 1.

Palm Beach 6, Bradenton 2

  • David Popkins was 2-for-4 including his 4th home run of the season.
  • Starlin Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a walk.
  • Anthony Garcia was 2-for-4 with his 12th home run of the season.
  • Jonathan Rodriguez, the Palm Beach first baseman, was 0-for-3 with a walk. The stat that caught my eye in the box score was that Rodriguez swiped his 15th base of the season. That's some impressive speed/clever jumps for a first baseman.
  • Ryan Sherriff scattered 7 hits across 7 innings for 2 runs (1 earned). He struck out 2.
  • Iden Nazario pitched the final 2 frames striking out 2.

State College 12, Mahoning Valley 5

  • Jimmy Bosco, CF, was 3-for-5.
  • Bruce Caldwell, 2B, was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.
  • David Washington, RF, was 3-for-4 with his 4th home run of the season and a walk.
  • Ronald Castillo, LF, was 3-for-5 with his 1st home run of the season.
  • Luke Voit, C, was 1-for-3 with a walk and his 1st home run of the season.
  • Willy Paulino pitched 4 innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned). He struck out 4 and walked 1.
  • Mitch Harris pitched another scoreless inning allowing a hit and a walk while striking out 2. That's now 9 scoreless innings to start the season with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Johnson City 7, Bluefield 2

  • Vaughn Bryan, CF, was 2-for-5 with his 1st home run of the season.
  • Richy Pedroza, 2B, and Kenneth Peoples-Walls, DH, both went 3-for-4.

  • Micahel Holback pitched the final 2.2 innings of the game walking 1 and striking out 3.
