Daily Farm Report - 7/27/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' farm system.

Peoria and State College were the only affiliates to win on the night as the system goes 2-4 W-L overall on Saturday. Silfredo Garcia pitched a solid outing in a Peoria win. Sam Tuivailala helped with a five strikeout performance in two scoreless innings.

Memphis 5, Round Rock 6

  • Jamie Romak had two hits one for a double.
  • Luis Mateo was 2-4 with an RBI single in his fourth game at Memphis.
  • Chris Swauger just fresh promoted from Springfield hit a 2-run RBI double.
  • Travis Tartamella hit a solo shot his 3rd of the season.
  • Boone Whiting went five innings he gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits, walked one and struck out six but didn't much help from his bullpen.
  • Memphis's back-end struggled to finish the game off as Sam Freeman consecutive scoreless outing streak comes to an end with two earned on three hits given up and Michael Blazek who blew the save on a Round Rock walk-off homer. Blazek was charged for one earned run.

Springfield 4, NW Arkansas 8

  • Springfield struggled defensively with three errors committed in the field but that really had no affect on the Springfield pitching staff who allowed eight earned runs on fourteen hits.
  • Mike O'Neill singled and walked twice. Those two walks put him in the Texas League lead in total walks for the this season one ahead of Oakland prospect Anthony Aliotti who was just promoted to Triple-A about two weeks ago.
  • Ruben Gotay hit an RBI single his lone hit.
  • Jake Lemmerman had a 2-run shot his 8th at Springfield.
  • Tim Cooney was hit around as he gave up six earned on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. The lefty did manage to struck out five.
  • Jose Almarante came in and ate up 3 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts a big lift for innings.
  • Danny Miranda pitched a scoreless frame in relief in the 9th.

Palm Beach 0, Daytona 6

  • David Popkins had the only extra base hit of only Palm Beach hitter as it was a double.
  • Danny Stienstra had two hits and a walk.
  • Travis Miller pitched three scoreless innings.
  • Tyler Melling followed with three more scoreless he gave up four hits, walked one and struck out two.
  • Ronnie Shaban was unlucky as he gave up four runs (one earned) on two hits, walked two and struck out two in 1 2/3 inning

Peoria 4, Kane County 1

  • C.J McElroy was 3-4 with an RBI double nice to see him have some success at the plate for a time.
  • Charlie Tilson singled twice in four at bats.
  • Jacob Wilson had two RBI doubles.
  • Patrick Wisdom was 0-2 with two walks.
  • Silfredo Garcia pitched six solid innings he gave up one earned on four hits. He struck out four and walked while inducing eleven groundouts.
  • Sam Tuivailala showing the type of arm strength he truly has as he struck out five in two impressive scoreless innings by far one of his best outings of his career.

State College 2, Auburn 1

  • State College rallied late with two runs in the bottom of the 9th to walk-off.
  • Luis Perez was hit by a pitch to score the game-tying run.
  • Cesar Valera had a four-hit game he knocked in the game-winning RBI.
  • Carson Kelly and Mason Katz both struck out three times in four at bats total.
  • Arturo Reyes pitched five innings gave up one earned run on four hits, walked two and struck out two.
  • Jacob Booden fanned five in two scoreless to be credited with the win.

Johnson City 0, Elizabethton 8

  • J.J Altobelli was 2-4 with a double.
  • Justin Ringo former Stanford graduate had two hits (both singles).
  • Nothing much on the offensive side of things for Johnson City on Saturday.
  • Hansel De Los Santos allowed four earned on eight hits in four innings of work.
