Daily Farm Report - 6/28/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' farm system.

The system went 2-2 W-L overall. State College game was postponed they will attempt to play two seven inning games tomorrow. Undrafted free agent David Popkins switch hitting outfielder whose achieved only hitting for average wherever he's played went deep for the 3rd time for Palm Beach. Tyrell Jenkins had a solid outing in a Palm Beach victory.

Memphis 3, Albuquerque 4

Kolten Wong was 0-3 with a walk always have to include him in the DFR's.

Chad Huffman hit a 3-run RBI single which produced Memphis only runs of the game.

Scott McGregor pitched 5 innings he allowed 5 hits and 1 earned run walked 2 while striking 2.

Sam Freeman with yet another scoreless outing he pitched 2 scoreless innings and struck out 3. Freeman hasn't been scored upon in 12 straight outings keep that in mind.

Victor Marte blew the save he gave up 2 hits on 3 earned runs. The end could potentially be approaching.

Springfield 6, Corpous Christi 7

Mike O'Neill returns to the lineup after a 7-game absence he was 3-6 with a 2-run RBI double and also stole his 9th bag of the season.

James Ramsey had an 0-5 with 3 strikeouts.

Cody Stanley was 2-5 with a run scored. Stanley is really starting to heat up at Springfield. He's now hitting .291 with a .750 OPS. Not to shabby for a 24-year old catcher at Springfield. Only knock on him is from a positional standpoint he's blocked one of the games most elite catchers.

Jake Lemmerman was 2-5 with two runs scored.

Luis Mateo was 3-5 with an BRI single.

Audry Perez produced a 2-run RBI double.

Seth Blair was not given much from his defense he gave up 6 runs only 2 were earned as he walked 1 and struck out 6 in 6 innings.

Lee Stoppelman retired two batters that included a strikeout.

Deryk Hooker back down to Springfield he allowed 2 hits on 1 earned resulting in what would happened to be the game winning that came around to score.

Palm Beach 5, St Lucie 2

David Popkins continues to achieve positive results in professional baseball he smacked a solo homer his 3rd of the season. Popkins was an undrafted free agent from UC Davis the Daniel Descalso alma mater.

Anthony Garcia went deep for the 11th time of the season.

Casey Rasmus knocked in two runners with a single in a pinch-hit appearance.

Tyrell Jenkins was solid in 6 2/3 innings he allowed 6 hits on 2 earned runs only walked 1 and struck out 5. His numbers don't look all that great especially the high number of walks but the numbers don't know he has put together more consistency than what the numbers suggest. With that consistency you can only hope for more polish to come.

Ronnie Shaban converted his 11th save in a scoreless 9th he struck out two while doing so.

Peoria 4, Quad Cities 2

Jacob Wilson was 1-3 with a run and walk.

Jordan Walton was 2-4 with an RBI double. Even though he's not age appropriate Walton has played a key role in Peoria's success this season starring in a utility role.

Patrick Wisdom singled and walked.

Charlie Tilson hit three singles and scored on a run.

Jeremy Schaffer hit an RBI double.

Joe Cuda pitched 6 strong innings he gave up 6 hits on 2 runs (1 earned) no walks and 4 strikeouts.

Samuel Tuivailala pitched two scoreless gave up 3 hits and struck out 1.

Robert Stock the new closer for Peoria like that role for him he pitched a scoreless 9th while fanning 1.

State College was postponed due to rain.

Johnson City 0, Bristol 8

Johnson City really didn't have anything going offensively or even pitching wise. Nothing much stood out in the box score.

Nick Lomascolo 2013 draftee pitched 3 2/3 innings he surrendered 7 hits on 5 runs only 4 of them were earned he walked 3 and struck out 3.
