Daily Farm Report - 5/30/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' farm system.

Memphis 5, Albuquerque 7

  • Kolten Wong was 1-for-4.
  • Brock Peterson was 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs. Peterson is having a monster year hitting .306/.381/.550 but at 30 is the quintessential minor league veteran. A good person to have in Memphis but unlikely to be someone who sees time in St. Louis.
  • Rob Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Boone Whiting struck out 7 over 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs. He walked 3 and was tagged for 3 hits. Since his promotion to Memphis, Whiting has maintained a good strikeout rate but had trouble with his command. Whether that's related to control or more selective hitters in AAA isn't something to be picked up from the boxscore but is an interesting question.

Springfield 0, Frisco 1 (7 innings)

  • Mike O'Neill was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.
  • Audry Perez's lone hit prevented this from being a no-hitter for Springfield though they drew 6 walks.
  • Seth Blair allowed 7 hits and 2 walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out 4 but allowed the lone run in the game.

Springfield 6, Frisco 0

  • Jake Lemmerman was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.
  • Tyler Rahmatulla was 0-for-1 with a pair of walks.
  • Xavier Scruggs was 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run.
  • Nick Greenwood scattered 4 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings.
  • Deryk Hooker struck out the side in his inning of work. With 32 strikeouts in 27 innings, Hooker remade himself in much the same way as recently promoted Michael Blazek. While both failed to stick as starters, they've established some success as relievers in the minors.
  • Keith Butler struck out 1 in a scoreless 7th.
