The system had an even 2-and-2 record on the day. Oscar Taveras didn't start for Memphis but had a successful pinch-hit appearance. You're never going to believe this, but Mike O'Neill walked 3 times and didn't strike out for Springfield. Seth Blair, he of the 15.6% BB-rate for his minor league career, had an encouraging start. Jacob Wilson had a monster day for the Peoria Chiefs. You can see video of his walk-off home run by clicking here.
- Justin Christian went 2-for-5 with a double leading off.
- Kolten Wong went 2-for-5.
- Rob Johnson went 2-for-3 with a double and walk.
- Ryan Jackson doubled.
- Oscar Taveras had a pinch-hit single that plated 2 runs.
- Greg Garcia walked. I wouldn't worry about his low batting average too much. His batted ball profile is right in line with his minor league career rates and he's striking out less. BABIP is probably to blame here.
- Nick Additon allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits (1 HR), 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts over 5 innings.
- Barret Browning gave up 1 run on 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 innings; he struck out 2.
- Eric Fornataro allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in 1 inning.
- Jorge Rondon handled the 9th inning but then coughed up 2 runs on a HR in the 10th.
- Oh. Mike O'Neill went 1-for-2 with 3 walks. Go figure.
- Thomas Pham went 1-for-3 with a triple.
- Chris Swauger went 2-for-5 with a HR (5).
- Xavier Scruggs went 2-for-4 with a HR (8) and walk.
- Adam Melker's 2 hits included a double and triple.
- Starlin Rodriguez had a double.
- Ruben Gotay walked 3 times.
- Seth Blair allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 5 innings; he struck out 6. This was an uncharacteristic start in that he didn't walk anyone. Today was the first time Blair had pitched multiple innings without issuing a walk since 2011.
- Justin Wright, Deryk Hooker, and Michael Blazek were quite the tag team combining for 4 scoreless innings that included 2 hits, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Blazek struck out the side in the ninth.
- Palm Beach only managed 5 hits and 2 walks as a team. All of their hits were singles.
- Danny Stienstra had 2 hits. Stephen Piscotty, Anthony Garcia, and Tyler Rahmatulla also singled.
- Piscotty threw someone out at third base.
- Tim Cooney pitched all 8 innings that included 3 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. He pitted 10 groundouts against 4 flyouts.
- Jacob Wilson went off on Lake County pitching for 2 HRs (6, 7) and a single in 5 trips to the plate. The second baseman has now hit more home runs in 2013 for Peoria than he did in twice as many plate appearances for Batavia last season.
- Geoffrey Klein hit a grand slam for his first HR of the year.
- Carson Kelly went 2-for-4 with a double and walk.
- Nick Martini went 3-for-5 with a double.
- Casey Rasmus had a pinch-hit double.
- Gerwuins Velazco walked twice.
- Joe Cuda had a rough one. In 5 innings, he allowed 8 runs (6 earned) on 11 hits (1 HR), 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
- Jhonny Polanco wasn't much better in his 1.1 innings of relief: 2 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
- Joseph Scanio and Joseph Donofrio combined for 2.2 scoreless innings that included 1 hit, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
