Daily Farm Report - 4/5/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' farm system.

The organization goes 4-2 in a with double headers for Memphis and Palm Beach. James Ramsey has the top pitching performance with Sam Gaviglio leading on the mound. Patrick Wisdom continues to struggle defensively.

Memphis 9, Oklahoma City 0 (Game 1: 7 innings)

  • Adron Chambers didn't record a hit in 4 trips to the plate but did manage to walk 3 times from the leadoff spot.
  • Kolten Wong was 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • David Freese had his Memphis rehab assignment going 1-for-4 with a double.
  • Chad Huffman was 2-for-3 with a double.
  • John Gast had a solid first outing to the season with 7 strikeouts in 5 innings. He allowed 4 hits and 3 walks but kept OK City scoreless. Gast also had 2 pickoffs in the game.
  • Eduardo Sanchez pitched a pair of frames allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. He struck out 1.

Memphis 7, Oklahoma City 8 (Game 2: 7 innings)

  • Kolten Wong was 1-for-4 with a double.
  • A host of veteran minor leaguers recorded 2 hits in 4 PAs including Brock Peterson, Chad Huffman, JR Towles and Jamie Romak. Huffman and Romak walked once with Romak also adding a double to his stat line.
  • Nick Greenwood got lit up in what looks like an odd bullpen start. He allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 1 in 2.2 IP. It is totally perplexing to me that Memphis chose not to go with one of their starters in the second game of the season.
  • Maikel Cleto struck out 1 in his inning of work. He allowed 3 runs on 2 walks and 3 hits.
  • Lefties Barrett Browning and Sam Freeman managed to stem the tide in the later innings. Browning pitched two scoreless frames and Freeman pitched one. Both allowed 1 baserunner -- Browning with a walk, Freeman with a hit.

Springfield 2, Corpus Christi 0

Palm Beach 3, Charlotte 1 (Game 1: 7 innings)

  • James Ramsey lead off the game playing centerfield. He went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.
  • Cody Stanley was 2-for-3 with a triple.
  • A pretty darn good outing for Sam Gaviglio who went 5 innings with 5 strikeouts and 9 groundouts. He allowed just 1 run on 3 hits working around at least 2 errors.
  • Jonathan Cornelius pitched the final 2 frames striking out 3 and allowing 1 hit.

Palm Beach 8, Charlotte 2 (Game 2: 7 innings)

Peoria 1, Wisconsin 2

  • Peoria managed just 3 singles and 2 walks in 31 PAs.
  • Patrick Wisdom committed his 4th error of the season on an errant throw.
